Benefits Open Enrollment: How to participate

Participating in Benefits Open Enrollment this year is easy. First, watch for an information packet from the school district. The information packet contains all of the information and materials you need to make your choices successfully, and should arrive in your home mailbox in early January.

Then, after reviewing the information within, complete the packet’s enrollment form and return it to the FUSD Benefits Office no later than March 11, 2011. Instructions for returning the form will be included in the packet.

With the availability of two medical plans beginning April 1, 2011, all plan participants are encouraged to participate in the Benefits Open Enrollment process. If you do not participate, you will be enrolled automatically in the plan’s standard Option A. See the chart below for contributions required for each option.

Before you enroll:

  1. Consider your marital and family status, your family’s benefit needs today, and your short-term future needs. For example, is your family expecting a baby? Is your child about to enter college?
  2. Read the benefits materials in your Benefits Open Enrollment packet. The packet includes details about your benefit plan options and other information needed to make your benefit elections. The costs of the benefit options are included in the Benefits Open Enrollment packet and on the enrollment form.
  3. Complete the enrollment form from your packet, check it over to ensure all of your information is correct, and return it to the Benefits Office.

After you return the enrollment form and after it has been processed by the Benefits Office, a confirmation statement will be mailed to your department or school site. All medical, dental and vision benefits chosen during Benefits Open Enrollment will go into effect April 1, 2011; previous choices under the old FUSD plan will expire March 31, 2011.
