Fresno Unified retirees can now review a comparison of the medical plans that will be available for Open Enrollment, including two new options under the Medicare COB (Coordination of Benefits)—Commercial PPO Plan A and Commercial PPO Plan B—along with the Kaiser Permanente Senior Advantage HMO Plan and the Medicare Advantage PPO Plan.
This material has been updated since the previous time this information was posted. Originally, JHMB had noted that for Commercial PPO Plan A and Plan B, the details on prescription drug coverage had not yet been determined. Now, new information has been released by the Centers for Medicare Services, confirming the details of prescription coverage, which is reflected in the included documents.
This information is also being mailed out in the Open Enrollment materials, and is provided here for your convenience.
Understanding How Your Coverage Works
- If you are a retiree eligible for Medicare, then Medicare will serve as your primary option for coverage. Commercial PPO Plans A and B will be available to then act as secondary coverage, helping cover additional eligible healthcare costs after Medicare pays its portion.
- For the Medicare Advantage and Kaiser Senior Advantage plans, the plan functions as both your primary and secondary coverage.
Review Your Options
Each plan offers different structures for deductibles, copays, provider access, prescription coverage, and covered services. The linked comparison chart is designed to help you review these differences and begin considering which option may best meet your healthcare needs.
We encourage you to review the comparison to familiarize yourself with the available options.
