Full-Time Employees
As a full-time employee of Fresno Unified School District working more than 20 hours per week, you are entitled to various healthcare benefits, provided by the Joint Health Management Board along with the District. Each plan has different guidelines, deductibles, and co-pays for the collection of benefits provided. Coverage for your dependent(s) is available at your expense. If coverage is waived for your dependents, the next opportunity to enroll in District group benefit plans would be the next open enrollment, or when a special enrollment event occurs.

Prescriptions via Elixir
The Elixir plan includes a four-tier prescription benefit. Tiered prescription drug plans require varying levels of payment depending on the drug’s tier and your copayment or coinsurance will be higher with a higher tier number.
Mental Health & Substance Abuse via Simple Behavioral
Your mental health and substance abuse coverage is through Simple Behavioral. Pre-authorization is required for all mental health and substance abuse services.
Chiropractic & Acupuncture via Simple MSK
These benefits, offered by Simple MSK, provide you access to licensed professionals at a discounted rate.
Telehealth via Teladoc Health®
Telehealth services, offered by Teladoc, allow you to receive basic care virtually.
Telehealth services are provided at no cost, and no deductible applies when using Teladoc.

Employee Assistance Program via Claremont EAP
Fresno Unified School District and the Joint Health Management Board understand that you and your family members might experience a variety of personal or work-related challenges. Through the Claremont EAP, you have access to resources, information, and counseling that are fully confidential and no cost to you. EAP services are available to all members of a plan participant’s residence, regardless of whether or not they are claimed as dependents.
Basic Life Insurance & AD&D via The Standard®
In the event of your death, Life Insurance will provide your family members or other beneficiaries with financial protection and security. Additionally, if your death is a result of an accident or if you become dismembered, your Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage may apply. Paid for in full by the Joint Health Management Board, the benefits outlined below are provided by The Standard. There are additional voluntary plans available that can be added at your own expense as well, with more information available on our Supplementary Benefits page.
Flexible Spending Account via American Fidelity
The District, in partnership with American Fidelity, offers flexible spending account plans that let you use pre-tax dollars to cover eligible healthcare and dependent care expenses. There are different types of FSAs that help to reduce your taxable income when paying for eligible expenses for yourself, your spouse, and any eligible dependents, as outlined below.

Healthy, active lifestyles can help reduce the risk of chronic disease and may lower your annual healthcare costs. We care about your total well-being and encourage all employees to engage in our wellness resources at no cost. Prescriptions via Kaiser Permanente®
The Kaiser prescription plan includes a two-tier prescription benefit. Tier 1 includes generic drugs, and Tier 2 includes preferred brand name drugs. Up to a 30-day supply is available at retail, and up to a 100-day supply is available through mail order.
Mental Health & Substance Abuse via Kaiser Permanente®
Your mental health and substance abuse coverage is offered through your HMO medical plan.
Chiropractic & Acupuncture via Simple MSK
Chiropractic benefits, offered by Simple MSK, provide you access to licensed professionals at a discounted rate. Acupuncture benefits are covered through Kaiser facilities at a $15 Copay (deductible waived).
Telehealth via Kaiser Permanente®
As an HMO plan participant, Kaiser Permanente provides you with a myriad of ways to meet with your physician or schedule an appointment. If you are pressed for time and/or prefer to meet with your physician via video, you can schedule an appointment in minutes by phone or using your mobile phone or computer. Kaiser recommends that participants download the KP Preventive Care app for the most convenient experience in scheduling appointment and conducting video visits. However, you can also visit their website at www.kp.org/mydoctor/videovisits for more details on how to use their telehealth services.

Please note, all eligible active District employees must participate and pay the monthly contributions and assessments, at least at the Employee Only level, for the Plan(s) or coverage. There is no opting out. You will automatically be enrolled in PPO Plan A, Delta Dental, MES Vision, and Basic Life Insurance if you don’t make an election within 31 days of benefit eligibility. Choosing an alternate plan is available at your own expense.
