5 Ways To Keep Some Spring in Your Joints

JHMB

|

This month, stay fresh and put some spring in your step.

Whether you’re standing all day, sitting at a desk, or managing daily tasks that strain your body, your joints work hard for you. A little care for them can go a long way toward helping you feel stronger, more flexible, and more energized.

Through SimpleTherapy, you have free access to virtual physical therapy programs designed to support your movement, relieve pain, and keep your joints feeling their best. If you’re enrolled in Fresno Unified PPO Plan A or B, this resource is available to you at no cost.

1. Stretch Your Neck and Shoulders

For educators, office staff, and retirees alike, long hours looking at screens or working at a desk can lead to tension and discomfort—especially in the neck and shoulders.

SimpleTherapy offers quick daily routines that include:

  • Gentle neck rolls to release tension
  • Shoulder stretches to improve posture
  • Upper back mobility exercises to reduce strain

Just 10–15 minutes a day can help reduce tightness and improve range of motion.

2. Support Your Back the Right Way

Whether you’re sitting in meetings or on your feet all day, back pain emerges as one of the most common physical issues.

SimpleTherapy can help you:

  • Strengthen your core and lower back muscles
  • Improve spinal alignment with posture exercises
  • Learn ergonomic tips for setting up your workspace or classroom

Even small adjustments, such as changing your chair height or how you stand, can relieve pressure and protect your spine.

3. Move More, Without Adding Stress

The key to joint-friendly movement? Low-impact, consistent activity. SimpleTherapy sessions are designed to help you get that activity in, no matter where you are—no gym or equipment required.

You can:

  • Choose the body area you want to focus on
  • Follow guided video sessions from home or work
  • Move at your own pace—anytime, anywhere

Daily movement helps keep joints flexible, muscles active, and pain at bay.

4. Care for Your Knees (So They’ll Care for You)

Your knees absorb a lot of wear and tear, especially with stairs, standing, or lifting. SimpleTherapy can help you:

  • Strengthen muscles around the knees
  • Improve balance and stability
  • Reduce inflammation and support long-term mobility

Small, consistent movements make a big impact on how your knees feel day-to-day. Getting to exercise them regularly, no matter where you are, will help them treat you right.

5. Take a Break—Your Body Will Thank You

Your joints are made for moving, but it helps to give them restorative breaks regularly. Try this:

  • Set a 60-minute timer as a reminder to stand, stretch, or walk for two minutes
  • Add one short SimpleTherapy session into your lunch break or before bed
  • Focus on flexibility and deep breathing for full-body relaxation

The result will be less tension, more comfort, and a healthier daily rhythm.

SimpleTherapy Is Here For You on Your Schedule

Whether you’re new to the program or ready to restart after a break, it only takes a few minutes to re-engage with your personalized plan.

I agree to represent my school/department as the Wellness Champion for this school year. I understand the outlined roles and responsibilities of the Wellness Champion and will assist in the implementation and coordination of wellness initiatives. I agree to not only support the WellPATH Employee Wellness program by my participation, but to collaborate with my local management team to support the initiatives as well. I understand that the success of the program hinges on all employees being empowered to make informed decisions that positively impact their health. The WellPATH program can count on me to be a messenger and motivator and to help gather information from my co-workers, principals and managers to help foster a culture of wellness within Fresno Unified School District that supports good health.

I also understand that I may be asked to assist in scheduling rooms and programs (including wellness screenings, seasonal influenza program) at my location, displaying WellPATH brochures, posters, etc. in appropriate areas, and encouraging my co-workers to be involved in the WellPATH Employee Wellness program.
